What does Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) mean to you?

While most people can easily articulate the definition of diversity, many may struggle defining equity and inclusion.  Merriam-Webster defines diversity, equity and inclusion as:

  • Diversity (di·ver·si·ty): The condition of having or being composed of differing elements: the inclusion of people of different races, cultures, etc. in a group or organization.

  • Equity (eq·ui·ty): Justice according to natural law or right specifically freedom from bias or favoritism

  • Inclusion (in·clu·sion): The act or practice of including and accommodating people who have historically been excluded.

Like other forward-thinking companies, we recognize the importance of formulating strategies to improve diversity, equity, and inclusion within our organization.  A successful DEI program not only supports moral, social and legal requirements, it has a proven positive impact on organization’s performance, culture, employee engagement and competitive advantage.

While Alvaria has made strides at improving diversity, equity and inclusion, there is more work to be done.

We are excited to announce the launch of the Alvaria DEI initiative and committee during Pride Month. The employees volunteering to participate in our DEI committee are charged with establishing a more diverse, equitable and inclusive working environment where all employees can thrive.

June is recognized as LGBTQ+ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer+) Pride Month, commemorating the 1969 Stonewall Uprising  in New York City on June 28, 1969.  The 1969 Stonewall uprising was a pivotal moment for the gay liberation movement.

It’s important to remember that Pride Month is a result of fearless advocates courageously batting decades of discrimination and violence to live authentically with pride.

Alvaria is proud to be an ally. We are committed to promoting awareness and equality within our organization while helping to increase understanding of the issues faced by those in the LGBTQ+ community.
